The Rotary Youth Exchange program is a low-cost scholarship program tailor-made for you. Almost 10, students study abroad every year with Rotary Youth Exchange!

With the Rotary Youth Exchange study abroad programs and scholarships , you will have the opportunity to learn a new language, discover another culture, and truly become a global citizen. You can choose to study abroad for a full academic year or during a gap year immediately following high school graduation before beginning college or university.

If going to high school abroad is not your thing or staying for an entire school year , you could choose a short summer abroad exchange program lasting from a few weeks to a couple of months.

Regardless of your choice, the Rotary Youth Exchange study abroad program will be one of your greatest lifetime experiences. Qualified applicants must be between at the time of their departure, must be sponsored by a local Rotary club, and must complete a written application. Additionally, before acceptance, applicants must pass medical and dental health exams, submit high school transcripts showing above average performance, and be recommended by a high school teacher or counselor.

The primary goal of Rotary Youth Exchange is providing young people with opportunities to experience a cultural exchange and to develop as leaders who promote peace and justice around the world. To achieve this, everyone involved in an exchange — including students and volunteers — must be open-minded, tolerant, and supportive of one another. The district Youth Exchange committee coordinates the inbound and outbound Youth Exchange activities in your district and communicates regularly with Rotary International, the district governor, and clubs sponsoring exchange students.

All district officers are also responsible for protecting Youth Exchange participants from physical, sexual, and emotional abuse by making sure exchanges follow Rotary certification requirements and local laws. District governors may appoint a Rotary member to serve as a district Youth Exchange chair. Youth Exchange leaders have secure access to the Youth Exchange Workgroup, where they can find an officers directory, resource guides, and other tools.

Districts often work together to coordinate Youth Exchange programs across a large region. These groups, called multidistricts, are recognized by the RI Board of Directors. Every multidistrict operates differently. Some help manage administrative duties like obtaining visas, while others help with student orientations or student placements.
